The Botswana Telecommunications
Corporation offers a variety of services, such as basic touch-tone
telephone, fax, telex, internet, VSAT, paging system, digital
PABX, Voicemail, Toll-free Lease Lines, and Packet Switched
Data Services. Botswana has excellent communication facilities
with Europe, USA and Asia, and the rates charged by BTC are
competitive. The country is well connected via the earth-satellite
station through Intelsat and the ISDN network which links
Botswana to the outside world.
The country has a
well-developed banking sector comprising the following banks:
Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays Bank, First National Bank,
and Stanbic Bank. These banks can advance both short and medium
term loans, as well as working capital. The National Development
Bank is another financial institution, which advances long
term capital to the manufacturing sector. Botswana is at an
advanced stage of establishing an International Financial
Services Centre (IFSC) in the capital, Gaborone. The IFSC
will be an excellent investment opportunity, and will go a
long way in creating flexibility for conducting off-shore
business.
Botswana is a true
cosmopolitan society where peace and harmony are the order
of the day. Excellent educational facilities exist in both
public and private institutions with international recognition.
The health-care system is well established, with fully-equipped
public hospitals, private clinics, and a modern-day private
hospital in the capital, Gaborone. There is a modern medical
rescue and evacuation emergency service. Recreational facilities
and other forms of entertainment include golf, casinos, yachting,
ball sports, cycling, game viewing, swimming, etc. In short,
Botswana is a place to invest and live in.
