OKAVANGO DELTA
The Okavango Delta
[16,000 sq. kms] reputed to be the largest inland delta in
the world.
It
offers great scenic beauty and sustains phenomenal numbers
of wildlife, crocodile, hippo, water bucks and various fish
species are among the many wild animals that could be viewed
from safari vans and boats.
With forests of palms,
grasslands, islands, flood plains and lagoons to be seen,
tourists seeking the pleasure of adventure are sure to have
one of the best experiences of their life.
The delta waters
actually spill into the Kalahari sands.
The meeting of dry
land and wet land gives that breath-taking contrast, porpularly
referred to as the 'Jewel of the Kalahari'.
The delta has a number
of first class lodges and camp sites where visitors touring
the area could be accommodated. Bookings could be done in
Maun.
MOREMI GAME RESERVE
The
Moremi Game Reserve [4,871sq.km] covers approximately 20 per
cent of the Okavango Delta. The Moremi is situated in the
northeast of Maun.
The Reserve has a
wide variety of wildlife, elephants are plenty, buffalo, giraffe,
lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hyena, jackal and a full
range of antelope and red lechwe can be seen. Bird life is
prolific including water birds.
Moremi has four major
camping sites, which are fairly developed with basic facilities
like ablution blocks, picnic tables and standpipes.
It is advisable to
use only 4X4 vehicles while driving in the reserve since the
roads are rough and sandy.
