Welcome to Botswana Attractions National Parks Information Getting in and Around Currency Climate Health

Health

Government's commitment to the promotion of a healthy living for the country's residents is evident by referral hospitals, many Primary Health Care Centres, mobile clinics including clinics placed around the country in various districts, villages and settlements.

The government has also liberalised the health sector by allowing the private sector to provide health services to the public.

HEALTH TIPS - DISEASES

Malaria

Malaria is prevalent in northern Botswana, but rare cases may occur in Ghanzi area. As a precaution, visitors are advised to consult their physicians before departure to Botswana. Mosquito repellents will ensure more comfort especially when asleep in the night.

AIDS

Botswana like other countries has been threatened by the Aids pandemic. However, the government has put in place measures like the National Aids Control Program to help address the many problems that this scourge has created. The general advice given by Worldwide Aids awareness campaigns should be adhered to while in the country.
