Information for students applying for Scholarships provided by the Government of PRC

01.The Chinese government awards approximately 23 scholarships to Sri Lanka annually. Students who wish to apply for these scholarships from Sri Lanka should observe the followings procedures:

(1) Applications for the Chinese scholarships are normally called for during the first quarter of every year through Govt. Gazette or local news papers by the Ministry of Higher Education and Information technology in Sri Lanka. Additional information concerning the scholarship scheme could be obtained from the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.

(2) When applying for scholarships, students should obtain information on the course that they intend to follow in China, the medium of instruction, duration of the course, financial entitlement of the scholarship, and the name of the university where they propose to follow the course. the medium of instruction is Chinese. English medium courses are not available except for a few post-graduate subjects. the medium of instruction is not possible under any circumstances. the well-recognized universities are located mainly in Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan etc., where majority of Sri Lankan students are presently studying. Some universities are specialised in subjects such as medicine, agriculture, telecommunication, cinema and fine arts. Students who apply for medicine should indicate in their scholarships application forms preference of universities on a priority basis.

02. The following universities offer courses in medicine:

a) Beijing Medical University.

b) Shanghai Medical university

c) Shanghai Second Medical University

d) Nanjing Medical University

e) Wuhan Medical University

f) Tianjing Medical University

g) Guangzhou Medical University

The following universities offer naval, aeronautic, nuclear, telecommunication and civil engineering courses:

a) Northern Jiaotong University-Beijng
b) University of Science and technology-Beijing
c) Being University of Post and telecommunication-Beijing
d) Dalian Maritime University-Dalian
e) Dalian University of Science and technology-Dalian
f) Changchung University of Science and technolog-Jiling
g) Jiling University of technology-Jiling
h) East China University of Science and technology-Shanghai
i)Tongji University-Shanghai
j) Fudan University-Shanghai
k) Shanghai Jiaotong University-Shanghai
l) East China university-Shanghai
m) Hohai University-Nanjing
n) Ocean University of Qindao-Qindao
o) South China University of technology-Guangzhou

Details of universities, which conduct social science courses could be obtained from the officer in charge of education at the Embassy of Sri Lanka, Beijing

03. All scholarship recipients should provide their particulars to the Sri Lanka Embassy soon after their arrival in China.

04. Students who wish to seek any assistance in relation to education in China may contact the officer who is in charge of education matters in the Embassy. Any request for change of course, duration of scholarship, medium of instruction, university will be subjected to the final approval of the Scholarship Council in China. Usually such changes are not granted.

05. Once students finalise diploma or degree courses, they should obtain authentication of their certificates from the Consular Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in China and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beijing.
